Depending on the version of your Novell Silverstream server, it may require you to install DER-encoded certificates or PEM-encoded certificates. It's not easy to tell which version you have until you actually reach the area where you install the SSL certificates. Because of that, we recommend that you download the DER and PEM intermediate certificates below. Also, we recommend that you download the DER-encoded certificate for your server from the Trustwave Control Center. The .cer file you received within the ZIP file when your certificate was issued may also be required.

If you need help keeping your certificates straightened out, the DER certificates end with the file extension .der and if you open them in notepad, there is very little readable text. If you open a PEM file in notepad, you will notice dashed lines at the top and bottom which have readable text.

Start the SMC and click the "Security" icon. Select "Certificates", then "RSA", and then "Import Certificate". The panel will ask for the path to your new certificate. If your Silverstream accepts PEM-encoded certificates, there may be an option to select the encoding type. If there is an option for that, please choose "PEM" or "Base64". Move your Trustwave SSL certificate onto the Silverstream server and browse for the path.

If there is no option to set the encoding type to "PEM" or "Base64", use the DER-encoded certificate from the Trustwave Control Center.

After you locate your certificate, enter a password to protect the certificate. Remember this password - without it, you cannot export your certificate or make changes to your configuration.

Start the SMC if it is not already open and select the "Security" icon, then "Certificates", and then "Authorities". Click "Add Certificate Authority". If there is an option to change the encoding to "PEM" or "Base64", use that option and install the GSRoot.crt file. However, if there is no option to change the encoding type, use the GSRoot.der file instead.

Repeat the same step, this time using the GSInt.crt or the GSInt.der certificate. Once again, if "PEM" or "Base64" is an option on your server, use the GSInt.crt, otherwise use the GSInt.der.

Repeat the same step one last time, this time using the TrustwaveCA.crt or the TrustwaveCA.der certificate. Once again, if "PEM" or "Base64" is an option on your server, use the TrustwaveCA.crt, otherwise use the TrustwaveCA.der.
